Ever been to Powell River?

If your answer is "Yes!", the region's charm may be the reason you are considering making the move to our community.

If you have never had a chance to come and visit us, it won't take long to provide you with enough reasons for a short stay or a move to one of the most unbelievably beautiful corners of the world.

Powell River is located at the north tip of the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, a couple of ferry rides from Vancouver and one across from Vancouver Island.

We live on the traditional territory of the Tla'amin people, who have inhabited this land for thousands of years, in harmony with the land. Endless snowy peaks and green mountains watch our back, while the land dips into the sheltered waters of the Pacific Ocean. Once the home to the world's largest paper and pulp mill, Powell River is transitioning to a destination for outdoor adventures and cultural activities.

Take some time to explore one of our countless islands and lakes, relax on a  beach, and hike or bike our incredible network of trails. Immerse yourself in our forests to spot wildlife, look up the Sunshine Coast Trail (180 km, longest hut-to-hut trail in Canada), plan for some backcountry winter activities... and then stop and relax, enjoying one of our amazing sunsets!

Unlike many other parts of BC, our region has an abundance of available fresh water from the 32 lakes right out our back door. We are also renown for our our excellent air quality (the WHO reported Powell River to have the cleanest air in Canada!) - fortunately avoiding the wild fire smoke that has become so common place in many parts of BC.

Drive north all the way to mile 0 of Highway 101, to explore the seaside village of Lund, gateway to the world famous Desolation Sound Provincial Marine Park.

Powell River is also home to several world renown musical events, such as Kathaumixw, a biennial international Choral Festival, and PRISMA, an international summer music academy. Many other music and art events offer entertainment throughout the year. Art galleries, fine restaurants, cafés and the local Townsite microbrewery offer plenty of opportunities to grab a quick coffee, beer or dine out. The 33 bed qathet General Hospital provides a range of services including surgery, endoscopy, ICU, obstetrics, in-patient psychiatry, oncology, emergency and diagnostic services.
