Our Homes

Blueberry Commons is a unique combination of a cohousing community and an organic farm structured as a cooperative. We are striving to eventually create up to 30 housing units for a diverse group of families.

Our vision for housing includes energy efficient green buildings featuring good esthetic and functional design and constructed to Built Green standards.

Our first phase of development, slated to begin in the summer of 2024 will include seven compact units -700 to 800 square feet plus second story space - constructed both as duplexes and as single family homes.

We are pleased to be working with an exceptional team of professionals to bring our dream to fruition:

Ronaye Matthew https://cohousingconsulting.ca/ is Canada’s leading co-housing consultant and has supported more than ten groups to bring their projects to completion within budget and on time.

Spani Developments https://spani.ca/ is a well established builder of fine homes on the Sunshine Coast and is working hard with us to deliver quality construction at the most affordable price possible.

Architect Peter Treuheit http://mobiusarchitecture.ca/ has designed several cohousing projects and is working with us to develop our site layout and buildings.

We have been working with our professionals to finalize the design of the overall site and of each of the homes and we are getting close! Our professionals are doing everything they can to help us build quality, energy efficient homes that are as affordable as possible.

Homes will be built on the lower end of our two adjoining lots (16 acres total) with small private spaces and common areas integrated throughout. All members will be co-owners of the farm, forests and fields in this beautiful place where we are privileged to live! Additional phases of housing construction will be explored once we have our seven original homes in place.

Right outside our back doors are trails through Tla'amin Nation lands which adjoin the amazing 180 km Sunshine Coast Trail. On the east side of the property is Sunset Park, a municipal park with playgrounds, disc golf, sports fields and forest. We also adjoin the Wildwood neighbourhood, an older community with a strong agricultural history.  A short walk from Blueberry Commons is James Thompson elementary school.

Food production will be integrated throughout.

This will include space for home gardens, orchards, food forests, and our fully functioning farm. Our vision is to provide opportunities for interested community members to undertake farming as a livelihood on our shared land. Food production will support not only BCFC members, but the wider community as well. Members will have the option of being as involved in the life of the farm as they would like - from employment to volunteering to taking in the abundance of all that we produce!
